Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

And Mary said:

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
and has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever.

— Luke 1:39-56

The peace of the Lord be with you. Today we celebrate the Assumption of Mary. Mary was untouched by original sin, and as such, she was the living, pure vessel prepared to carry the Son of God, thus insuring the redemption of the human race. Given she was free from sin, she was also untouched by the corruption of death. Thus, in the fullness of time, she was taken body and soul in to heaven. As we ponder this great mystery of faith may we also thank God for our most Blessed Mother and her selfless sacrifices.

Pray for us O Holy Mother of God that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
