Thursday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

The way of the just is smooth;
the path of the just you make level.
Yes, for your way and your judgments, O LORD,
we look to you;
Your name and your title
are the desire of our souls.

— Isaiah 26

Jesus said:

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.

— Matthew 11:26-28

The peace of the Lord be with you. Both the Old and New testament readings today tell us that the only way to have a truly worry free life is to have a life that is centered on God. That does not mean that life will be trouble free, because we live in a broken world. Despite that, when we are filled with the confidence and knowledge that God ultimately has the final say, we can let go of a lot of our concerns. This does not mean that everything goes. It does mean we have a responsibility to accept right from wrong, truth from falsehood, and to work at caring for each other just like Jesus has cared for us. Am I telling you that I am there yet? Absolutely not, I have a long way to go. However, it is worth the effort and it will help us to transform not only ourselves, but the world we live in.

Please continue to take care of yourselves, your families, and to take the precautions necessary to keep yourselves healthy. Remember the old gospel tune says “he has the whole world in his hands, he has the whole world in his hands”. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
