Monday of the Twenty-third Week in Ordinary Time

The peace of the Lord be with you. Once again Jesus emphasizes the importance and value of mercy. The Catholic Catechism (2447) says:

The works of mercy are charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbor in his spiritual and bodily necessities. Instructing, advising, consoling, comforting are spiritual works of mercy as are forgiving and bearing wrongs patiently. The corporal works of mercy consist especially in feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead.”

These types of works not only please God greatly they also bring God’s healing presence into our world. So as these opportunities occur in our lives to be bearers and recipients of God’s mercy may we do so with heartfelt joy and gratitude. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
