Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.

John 3:16

The peace of the Lord be with you. Today we celebrate the feast of the Exultation of the Cross. Jesus, in talking about his passion, refers back to how the people were healed as Moses lifted high the serpent which took away the deadly sting of the seraphs that were in the desert. Jesus removes the poisonous ting of original sin and defeats death which allows us to enjoy the joys of heaven when our earthly life has been concluded. Jesus turns the cross — a tool that had once been a tool for destruction, cruelty, hatred, and violence — into a tool for redemption for the world; a key that set us free.

At times of difficulty we should lift our eyes to the cross and draw from the strength of the love between God the Father and God the the Son. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
